A video Review of the TV.
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R25Q95UB646QBA Please keep in mind this is a general overview . I don't go into details over menu interface, connections, specs, ect. And though the PC connection is a big plus for me I have no tested it yet. So I do not know if HDMI adapters or HDMI/VGA cables are best for this TV.

I will touch on this though, High Def sources are best for this screen. If you own a Wii or anything that can not outsource above 420p do not expect mouth dropping results. The TV does a respectable job buts not what its meant for.

UPDATE. Sep 18th.

The Tv is still running great. I got the chance to hook a PC up to it using a DVI to HDMI cable and the picture was fantastic.

Great picture easy setup
Great picture (sharp with great color fidelity)and easy setup. Sound OK (better then expected). Great selection of external interfaces. Very pleased with this purchase. Would not hesitate to recomend this product.

Great, compact TV for a great price!
I purchased this TV second-hand, and I use it as a computer monitor. I do a significant amount of graphic design work, so color reproduction, black levels and clarity are very important to me.

Expect to spend some time playing with the settings if you want anything approximating true colors. At first I thought this was an awful TV/monitor. I spent a couple hours trying to calibrate it and, after being unable to achieve usable results, I almost sold it the next day. It took me a couple more hours of a tinkering to finally get it how it is now, but NOW it is fantastic.

It took a combination of video card settings and monitor settings. While calibrating I ensured I had a high contrast background with lots of dark colors. I played a video with lots of action and facial tones, and kept a color palette up. Then I played with the settings individually, I first got the monitor optimized: sharpness (0), contract (65), brightness(60), color(50), tint (G50/R50), color temperature (Cool2), in Dynamic mode using the "Just Scan" option and none of the stupid gimmicky software filtering they add under picture options. Then moving onto the video card settings I found that I needed to drastically alter the gamma settings to alleviate serious black-bleeding (+1.27). I also had to fool around with individual colors using the automatic monitor setup tool that comes with Nvidia video cards. Obviously, your TV and video card are going to differ from mine, but hopefully this serves as a helpful starting point.

The color reproduction and black levels are almost on par with my IPS and PVA panels that sit to the left and right respectively. Even though this is a TN, it does have very acceptable color reproduction. Now don't get me wrong, you will not want to do any sort of graphic work on this TV, but it looks great for movies, games and general computer use.

It is sufficiently bright with the backlight on level 0 both at night and during the day.

The remote is alright. It's quite ugly, but it's designed with older folks in mind. The buttons are easy to hit and the backlight behind the keys makes it easily usable in a dark room.

The stand is sturdy and looks very nice and clean. The base's rotation works well and stays where placed, it will not rotate on its own.

If you do much switching between resolutions, such as transitioning into a legacy full screen program, the monitor does take a few seconds to catch up. It is much worse than any monitor I've used before, but not a deal-breaker for me at all.

I can truly recommend this product, but be prepared to calibrate!

I was very satisfied in the service I received for buying this TV through Amazon. TV is working just great. And the delivery company (PILOT FREIGHT SERVICE) was just excellent in setting up this set and making sure it was in working order. Driver even stayed until set was programmed. A great guy, and very well informed on the workings of this TV.

This is the second set I bought through Amazon. Last July I bought a 46" Samsung HDTV and also was extremely pleased in the service in making sure set was in working order before they departed.

Great HDTV
Gorgeous picture. Fairly easy to figure out all the features. I love the fact that the TV decides the best configuration for the picture being fed.

Samsung LN37A550 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Samsung LN37A550 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Product Description
Once you experience the amazing picture quality that high definition offers, it'll be almost impossible for you to watch "normal" TV. The SAMSUNG LN37A550 is the perfect way to upgrade your home entertainment. With full 1080p resolution, images are sharper and more realistic. And a 15,000:1 contrast ratio delivers stunning contrast in dark or bright scenes. Full HD (1080p) contains 1.5 times more scanning lines than conventional HD TVs. That means more pixels, more details and a better picture. A resolution that is approximately twice as much as conventional HD TVs creates the most perfect picture imaginable. Contrast and brightness levels achieve new heights in this LCD TV. Watch movies and shows come to life with enhanced details in very dark or bright scenes. Enjoy a more realistic, sharper picture quality that's sure to catch your eye with 15,000:1 contrast ratio. One of the most important features for an LCD panel is the pixel response time. Response time refers to the amount of time it takes a pixel to "refresh" itself-to go from being active to being inactive, (ready to be re-activated). The lower the milliseconds, the faster the response time. A very fast 5ms response time virtually eliminates any blurring and gives you smooth-motion action scenes. The newest feature is the Wiselink USB Connection that easily hooks up your MP3 player or digital camera to your TV with the USB 2.0 connection. A simple user interface lets you scroll through and view play lists and pictures. You can zoom, rotate or play photo slide shows and even add music. With the SAMSUNG LN37A550 HDTV you really get the total package. 15,000 - 1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio 5ms Response Time 16 - 9 Aspect Ratio SRS TruSurround XT 10 W + 10 W Audio System Input Ports - 3 x HDMI (1 side, 2 rear), 2 x Component, 2 x A/V (1 side, 1 rear), 1x 15-pin VGA PC, 1 x S-Video (side), Wiselink (USB 2.0), RF antenna inputs, Headphone jack (side) A

CustomerReviews

great design, great function, great documentation
The Samsung LN37A550 was my first flat screen TV, and I do not use it as the center of a vast, complicated web of interlinked entertainment devices, but I am capable with various computer applications and technologies, including digital photography. I have had the TV for nine months and it has delighted me in every respect. I paced the aisles at stores comparing screens and concluded that the Samsung displays deserve their high recommendations. I still believe that.

One of the features that seemed like a big plus before I made the purchase was the TV's User Guide. I downloaded it, studied it, and asked myself: "Does this manual contain clear, well-written explanations of ALL of the TV's features and functions? Does it have enough diagrams and illustrations that I am unlikely to have to call customer service, or give up on finding an answer or fixing a problem?" In some ways, the manual sold the TV. Not only did it tell me a great deal about the TV's features and operation, but it reassured me that I would be able to get the most out of it. I compared it with manuals for equivalent models from other manufacturers and, in my view, the Samsung manual was the best written and organized.

Thanks to the manual, as soon as I got the TV, I had no trouble exploring the device and setting up everything to suit my tastes. The onscreen menus, while necessarily somewhat complex given the level of control Samsung gives the user, are set up well and it doesn't take long before the user can navigate them easily.

But in the end, a TV is all about the picture. Every time I watch something, whether TV or DVD, it's great. For anyone using over-the-air signals, the TV gets the most out of the digital conversion. One of the remote's buttons makes it easy to toggle between picture formats/sizes, allowing the user to get the most out the screen area.

I have no comments on the speakers' sound quality because I always listen with wireless headphones (a great way for an apartment dweller to get great sound quality and never, ever disturb a neighbor).

DO NOT BUY-Bad Quality, 3 fixes still no good. Horrible Customer Service.
I bought this TV August 2008 and started to have screen blackout issues within 6 months. Customer service came 2-3 times and basically swapped out the power supply, mother board and the LCD panel itself. Only thing didn't change was the plastic cover and stand. The fix worked for a couple of months now, but a few days ago, the TV completely went dark.

I called customer service and got involved with the executive service team. I was informed initially that I will get a new TV, and waited 48 hours with no further response from Samsung. I called back, they not only questioned the legitimacy of my forwarded Amazon receipt, but also wanted to further repair the TV instead of sending me a new one.

Samsung customer service can not send out emails, doesn't want to maintain one-to-one service contact throughout this process and certainly don't try hard to solve problems for customers who had already went through so much trouble for a TV. For the 4th time in a row in a few months, I am WITHOUT a TV.

Samsung's product has issues, period. Don't give yourself the chance to have a BAD product and dealing with aggregation.

DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG PRODUCT, DUE TO BAD TECHNOLOGY AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROCESS.

Good for an LCD, but still prefer PLASMA
Bought this top rated LCD for the bedroom - very nice. LCD is the way to go if you want light weight, cool running television for a bright, sunlit room. OTHERWISE, I would still stick with the plasma technology.

We have an older Pioneer plasma (720p resolution) in the living room - this Samsung LCD can't touch the Pioneer plasma when it comes to picture quality. The plasma provides much more realistic "film" type picture. The real difference is in flesh tones and blacks (such as a man's black suit on a show like David Letterman, etc).

I know the LCD's look so much better when you see them in a huge, brightly lit store like Best Buy, but in real life there is no question that plasma provides the better, truer picture.

The VERY NEW and EXPENSIVE technology of LED seems to have the benefits of the LCD with the picture quality of a plasma....but it's pretty pricey right now. But just wait a few years, and the prices will come down.

Also, don't get hung up on the 1080p resolution - the human eye can only detect so much. A 720p resolution will look just as good as a 1080p (unless you stick your nose a few inches from the screen...which nobody does.) Sitting back in your easy chair, they're just the same.

We really do like this TV, especially the clean look when it is turned off. However for our next TV purchase (far in the future....) we will look to the new LED technology, or stick with Plasma.

Refurbished Samsung LN37A550 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review
Electrozone Service:

Pros: Television was packaged with tons of foam. No dead pixels. Excellent customer service and communication. CHEAP PRICE!

Cons:The shipping was delayed but Electrozone was able to compensate for it. Scuffs and scratches along the border of the t.v. Biggest issue was the "FIXED" writing that was etched permanently along the border of the television due to being a refurbished product( Luckily, Can only be seen at a glared angle and not a big enough issue to return but still COME ON GUYS please don't scratch up the refurbished televisions with "Fixed" writing, common sense).

Television itself:

Pros: Amazing 1080p picture. Best remote control, ever. Tons of extra settings and features.

Cons:Can get a bit too bright from time to time but nothing major. As expected, the sound it bad but replacement speakers or a sound system fix the problem.

Value, value, value!
Product is exactly as advertised, arrived sooner than anticipated and was in A1 condition. Toshiba seems to make a great product - the perfect TV for the kids in their play room. Can be used with their games systems, computre, DVD and as a television. Could not ask for more.

Ok tv when it works right
I've had this tv for 5 months and have had numerous problems.

1:The sound goes out and you have to turn the tv off and on to get it back.

2:The screen freezes and goes bright with no sound.

3:The screen freezes and goes bright with loud anoying static.

4:No recall when you go to the same channel twice.

Note all this has happened more than three times.I have two of these tvs and the second one is having the same problem but only twice has it happened. These problems seem to be only happening with the 26 inch because I also have a 32 inch and have had no problems what so ever.I recommend another brand for 26 inch tvs.

Good Quality
I bought this TV for the master bedroom for my husband's birthday. He was excited. We had a few issues with the shiiping, broken the first time is came, but after it got settled, we love it. The picture is a little dark but very good for the bedroom.

Extremely Pleased
I was a little worried about purchasing a TV on line, but read the reviews on this TV and decided to take a chance. I couldn't be more pleased. The picture is sharp and crisp. The remote works great. I have it mounted in my cabin bedroom. Makes rainy days fun. You won't be disappointed with this TV

nice, but...
I recently got the LG32 inch and it setup and runs like a dream. Really pretty picture, color balance. Everything, except.....no audio outs on the set. I was all ready to hose it into my surround sound system and no go. If you don't have an optical audio cable input (I don't), you're just out of luck.

Great TV, Love IT...
I got this TV during ThanksGiving weekend for a very good price, setup was easy, also pluged it with my computer and just love it.

32LG70 highly recommended
LG makes LCD panels at their state-of-the-art factories used by many other labels. The 32LG70 is a first-rate product with a good looking glossy black case, friendly menu, and excellent color. While it does not have the deep blacks of plasma, it compares favorably with any and all 32 inch LCD panels. The entire LG70 series are top of the line and highly recommended.LG 32LG70 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Great TV
This TV exceeded my expectation. The HDTV tuner works really well, the multiple inputs are more than enough to satisfy my needs (Cable Box converter, DVD, HDMI Inputs, etc.).

The USB functionality is really cool. I plugged in a small USB extender that had come in some other thing I bought, and to that I can plug my Western Digital external Hard Drive, and browse through photos with a stunning really amazing color display in the TV, and I can even listen to my MP3 as I browse the photos, all done through the USB with computer at all. Trully a great buy !

Cons: it will not play video files on your hard drive, nor will it access your hard drive over a network. The TAGS for the different inputs cannot all be customized.

Awesome TV..
I like this TV.. My 2nd LG. Remote should be back-lit, but... Good inputs, it hangs well on the wall. I like the Red/Side finish to it. Good product, good price, and Amazon shipping was timely.

Samsung does not stand behind their products
I bouight a 52 inch Samsung LCD television. I have rarely used my television in the last year and a half I have owned my TV. I called the Samsung toll free number as my television has many clicks before it will switch on. No problem if it is warmed up and then turns off and on. Now, I will have to pay a repair man to come, or drop it off to be repaired. I was not able to have an answer to my question regarding . . . whether this is a common problem with SAMSUNG?

SAMSUNG is not a company I wish to purchase products from. BUYER BEWARE.

Ripped off in Montana

Good but not Great
I purchased this T.V about 3 month ago and am very pleased, the picture is great. The colors are accurate and blacks are true. The only complaints I have are that the picture even with the 240 is a bit blurry when watching football. I have to say I get HD without a set top box. The picture is wonderful when not a lot of action is on screen. Also the remote is not very responsive; for one when you first start the T.V. it does not respond for several seconds, also the range seems limited to about 20 feet; not so bad, but I have a lot of open space and use my remote from the kitchen very often and it does not work that great. Over all I still think Plasma (had one 3 year than died) is better, but not as reliable.

On another note, the internet connection is fun, but not that useful, but for updates. The DNLA server is great, does just everything promised. Easily connects to your computer for sharing of file. Very nice

Unexpected effects
The TV is everything the hype says it is. My wife is very happy with it and the image quality is super. However, the screen is too reflective to my taste (Sony has true non-reflective matte surface) and the room needs to be darkened for comfortable view, and the high-Hz technology makes all movements unnaturally smooth.

Would be perfect if the TV wasn't damaged...
I ordered this TV on Sunday, Oct 11 and it came on Friday Oct 16th, but only after being on the phone with Amazon's and the Amazon Store Card's customer service departments for around 6 hours on Monday. That was a nightmare in itself.

The TV arrived and the delivery man set it up and plugged it in to show me that it worked- but he didn't hook it up to the cable or anything so all we saw was 'static'. He asked me to sign for it and promptly left. When my husband and I put in a DVD, the screen has a huge, 2ft wide football shaped light spot in the middle of the screen that is visible during dark scenes on screen. I'm not really sure what to make of it... at this point I have sent an email to Amazon, and we have called Samsung to see about having a person sent out to take a look at it. I hope to get this resolved quickly as dealing with the ordering of this TV was, as I said, a nightmare.

If the technician can't fix it without 'refurbishing' parts as other reviewers have stated, then I will be requesting an exchange from Amazon ASAP. I'll update as this situation progresses, but as of now the technician isn't even scheduled to come until Monday...

After 3 years of searching...
I want to start off by saying that I am probably THE pickiest person when it comes to picture quality, response time, and input lag. I started searching for a nice, large LCD a long time ago. I finally decided to buy a 52 inch Samsung model 2 years ago but just the 60hz model with an 8ms response time from Amazon. First of all, that LCD was basically unusable, came with some stuck pixels, and was plagued with ghosting. I'd say that the response time was somewhere in the 200-400ms range for some high contrast colors. There was also terrible pillaring on either side of the LCD that I could not ignore in scenes with lots of solid color. I basically gave up the search at that point and returned the TV because I was so unhappy with it.

So naturally, I was skeptical about this one when I needed to buy a TV for my new home 1.5 years later. This time it was on my gf's dime, and I figured I'd give it a shot. Let me tell you, the response time is about 100 times better. I don't see blacks streaking across my screen like I used to. Granted, since I am very sensitive to it, I can still see ever so slight ghosting if I look close enough. But, the difference here is I have to try HARD to see it. I still have slight pillaring on this LCD but it's almost nonexistent if you are directly in front of the TV. Also, I have no stuck pixels which makes me happy too! Input lag will exist on any large LCD you purchase, but I tell you I don't even notice it playing COD4 or Killzone2. Contrast ratio and color tone has also advanced greatly since the last LCD I purchased. They are so vivid and it is to bright that I have to turn it down to 1-3 for the backlight or else my eyes burn in the dark. This LCD is also thinner than the last by about 50%. I don't care for the 240hz because it makes mistakes with compressed content, but looks pretty damn good on uncompressed HD. So, I leave judder and blur reduction to a nice median 5 and it's quite pleasing to look at now. The menu, added features, and everything are also nice on this product, although I don't use them that often. My ONLY complaint is that the speakers on this aren't up to par with the old one I returned. Of course, this is 50% thinner so I am sure they downsized the sub and some speakers. I can't rate this lower because you need to have a separate sound system anyways if you care to have good sound quality. I got this for $1949 which is a hell of a lot cheaper than in the stores. Coming from a picky user that frequented the avsforums and did a ton of research, you should definitely purchase this LCD. At the time of this review and my purchase which was months ago, it was regarded as the best LCD on the market. LED was tempting, but I am wary of the issues with new tech until it is well established and the kinks are ironed out. Best buy ever!
